Volume 24 Basic Bargello Quilting “Color my quilt Bargello from start to finish”
Bargello needlepoint flame patterns have a colorful flowing repeating pattern. Bargello patchwork quilting, named after the needlework technique, not only recreates these patterns but does more with them. The result is a quilt with texture, exciting color, contrast and waves of motion. Bargello’s abstract art design inspires fabric artists projects such as quilting, pillows, jackets, and vests.
Many consider Bargello designs particularly challenging. We take out the difficulty and show you step-by-step how to easily create these designs. The technique itself is very simple; sew simple strip sets, then cut the sets into various widths. These strips are gradually offset by color and sewn in an up and down pattern to achieve a motion curve. The tricky part was learning how to keep track of your pattern! We give you a foolproof method!
If you ever wanted to learn to create a Bargello quilt, then start here with the basics. Once you master the basics you’ll impress yourself. Your creativity will take over and lead you wherever you want to go.
